I hunt rabbits, pigeons, corvids etc. with my .177 Airwolf, very nice & with some success, but it is quite heavy to carry around. I'm thinking about a Huntsman for the field, but which calibre? More importantly what do you think are the pro's & con's?

Agreed Chris, my AW is heavy for the field. I have to admit I like the Regal, and have knocked a lot over with it, don't own one but do like them. .177 for me as I like the flat flight and range.

Do you think that the higher ft/s helps with .177 as the pellet arrives quicker with less time for the quarry to react?

I have guns in both 177 and 22. One gun in particular is a Marauder in 22 that is really accurate with Crosman Premier 14 gr pellets. At 60 yards, it'll reach out under my neighbor's wood pile to take starlings. I would have to go with that one. One of the 177s I have is an HW100. If it weren't for troubles with the regulator in it, that gun would have been "The one". I do have a 177 Marauder that I am really fond of because of the amount of rats I have taken with it when I lived in the city. We had nasty neighbors that would throw their trash at the end of their yard, no can, no lid. Just a rubbish pile. I used a Pulsar N550 and that gun to take over 170 rats within a year or so.

I own rifles in both calibres. (.22 and .177 ). I have done extended tests and its .22 for me. .177 can, because its lighter and although more velocity, in a wind or if the .177 pellets hits even a very small ttwig it can be knocked off course. I believe some if you are confusing Velocity as the be all and end all. The mass of a pellet is also important as the larger the mass, the more energy it can absorb and the harder hitting the pellet as that energy stored in the pellet is expelled on impact. Then tests I have done shows a bigger hole at the exit side that the entry side in .177. This means that a little of the stored energy is being transmitted inside the target(ie. vermin's head). The .22 has a bigger entrytentry home than the .177 showing that the energy is expelled to much a greater extent than the .177. Oh yes I use Marksman pellets----They are as accurate as any. It is in the end the person aiming and firing the gun that is the determiner of accuracy. A don't get me on parallel! That is a simple error that practice just makes it disappear. Side wheels! A lot of Mumbo-Jumbo spoken About parallex and from people who region they are experts!

Walther Terrus in .177 everytime, flatter, faster any far more accurate than any of my other air rifles 4.52 AA diabolo fields, Remington Express in .177 my second choice Crosman prem hollow points, the Rimfire's only seem to shoot targets nowadays.

I use a .22, the weight doesn't bother me. Obviously for the shorter range, long range it's .22LR all the way
