G/Day Folks, checking in for the first time. Call me Perry, I'll answer to just about anything in impolite company. I hail from 40 k North of Brisbane in Queensland Australia. I found this Forum through watching The Airgun Gear Show, thankyou Giles, great Show, very informative and entertaining.
I recently bought myself a HW77 in .177. I walked into the Gunshop to buy myself a Walther Century, took one look at a Weihrauch HW97K they had in Stock and had to have it. As it turned out the Gunshop offered me a Scope Package deal on a HW77 for the same price so I took that instead. In the week thereafter whilst waiting for the Rifle Scope Package to arrive I found out that the Australian Customs Dept had taken it upon themselves to arbitrarily decide that the HW97K is a prohibited import because of the Barrel Shroud. We have this BS clause in our Firearms Legislation that if something looks like an evil outlawed Suppressor we cant have it. All Australian compliant HW97's imported in recent years are sans Shroud. So I ended up with a HW77 with a Leaper's 4x32.
That little Scope is a real surprise. Clear Optics, Mildot Reticle and precise click adjustments. Parallax is preset to 35 Yards. For my short term intentions this Scope will do me nicely. I found a new Leapers the other day, near enough to 1/2 the price I'd seen it advertised before so decided to buy it. This Scope has return to zero Turrets and an Adjustable Objective 7.5 Yards to Infinity. The other Leapers will end up on another Toy. I know they are cheap Chinese and may let me down sooner than later but something like a Hawke Airmax which the HW77 deserves is out of my Budget at present - I'll upgrade down the Track
The last Air Rifle I shot was about 40 years ago, a Shangai Break Barrel so you can imagine how impressed I was the first time I squeezed the Trigger on the Weihrauch. I bought the HW77 for Plinking around a Hunting Camp, Small Game Hunting and Target Work. I have become very interested in the Hunter Field Target Game but in my neck of the Woods it is hardly heard of and I cant find anywhere that plays it.
My HW77 loves JSB Exact 8.44 Grains. It has fired approx 250 Pellets and at this stage will shoot under 1/2" at 25 Yards and on a Windy Day at Belmont Rifle Range I have shot a 2" group at 50 Yards using a Post as a Rest. I have 2 different Tins of H & N Pellets to try and they may return better Groups at 50 Yards, time will tell. Either way this Rife has all the accuracy to Hunt small Game I could dream of.
Look forward to learning all I can from you Folks and many happy years shooting my HW77.
regards Perry
